MY STYLE OF THERAPY
My general style of working with individuals is called “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy”. This style of therapy is based on the theory that our thoughts affect our emotions and, consequently, our behavior. Our thoughts, or, you could say, our world view or philosophy of life has much to do with our emotional response to people and events. I like to try to find out about your beliefs and core values and see how they might be affecting your decisions and, therefore, the emotions that are causing problems in your life.
I believe in people. I believe that people want to do better if they could. The whole idea to coming to therapy is to resolve issues as quickly as possible. I like to work at a pace with which you are comfortable. I am proactive and straight-forward, often using humor, role playing, homework assignments, and other interventions that are appropriate to your situation. I want to know what your goals for therapy are and help you to achieve them.
I want to help you find happiness and joy in your relationships and to be as successful as possible in everything you do. My personal goal is to help families and individuals with life issues, rather than focusing on diagnosing and treating severe mental disorders.
Finally, I would like to be a guide to help you find freedom from your hurts, hang-ups, and habits. Unfortunately, most people refuse to change until their pain exceeds their fear – fear of change, that is. Giving up control can be very scary. I would encourage you to take a risk and get some help before things get worse than they already are. |
